The treatment that you will receive at Waterwheel Family Acupuncture will be focused on acupuncture, but may also include other traditional Chinese medical therapies including moxibustion, cupping, gua sha, electroacupuncture and massage. I am interested in helping patients through periods of challenge and change, and can provide counseling in pain management, nutrition, and mindfulness meditation. The NADA protocol, an acupuncture treatment to help people quit smoking and other addictions, is available. Learning about each patient’s history, symptoms and goals for treatment forms a core aspect of the treatment plan.

Treatment Modalities:
Acupuncture involves inserting extremely fine, sterile needles into acupuncture points. In my practice I work to carefully ensure that the treatment is as comfortable and as gentle as possible. Acupuncture balances all of the body systems, and generally promotes a sensation of deep relaxation while patients are resting with the needles in place.
Moxibustion is the practice of heating acupuncture points by burning small cones of a wooly herb called mugwort near or on the skin, creating a pleasant, painless warming sensation. Moxibustion is a traditional practice that has been used for thousands of years throughout Asia.
Cupping is a therapeutic practice in which special glass or plastic cups are placed on the skin with the aid of suction. Cupping is often used for colds and flus, and in cases with excess phlegm or muscle tension.
Gua Sha is a traditional East Asian healing therapy that involves rubbing or scraping the skin with a flat instrument in order to move stuck qi and blood, and to move fluids. It is often used for chronic pain, and to treat as well as prevent colds, flus and asthma.
